How long is HHA training in New York?
New York State requires a minimum of 75 hours for home health aide certification, including supervised practical training. Most schools run the course over three to four weeks, with day and some evening schedules; the school you are placed with will confirm dates.

Is the Clinton Institute part of Caring Professionals?
No. The Clinton Institute is an independent, state-approved training school with campuses on Kings Highway in Brooklyn and East 149th Street in the Bronx. Caring Professionals sponsors students there and at the other schools listed on this page, and hires graduates.
Does an HHA certificate expire?
A New York HHA certificate does not have an expiry date, but the state requires 12 hours of in-service training each year, which your agency provides, and an aide who has not worked for pay for 24 consecutive months must retrain before returning.
PCA vs. HHA: which certificate should I get?
The HHA certificate takes longer but opens more cases and more hours, because HHAs can take vital signs, help with prescribed exercises, and support clients with greater health needs. The PCA certificate is quicker to earn and a good way to start. See our PCA training in New York page.
Do I need to speak English to train as an HHA?
Instruction is in English at most schools, and some offer bilingual support; our own PCA course is taught in Spanish and English. Once certified, speaking a second language is an advantage: Caring Professionals places aides with families in more than twenty languages across New York.
