Both are New York State certifications, but home health aide training is longer. A Home Health Aide (HHA) completes at least 75 hours of training, including 16 hours of supervised practical training, and can help with some health-related tasks. A Personal Care Aide (PCA) completes 40 hours and focuses on personal care and household support. Many aides start with a PCA certificate and move on to HHA. When applying in person you will need (as per New York State regulations) an active HHA or PCA certificate, a pre-employment physical and labs, a legal form of ID and social security card (no photocopies), and a direct deposit form or voided check.
