The Caring Professionals Story: Caring in the Communities

Back in 1994, Miriam Sternberg was a hospital nurse with a growing family. An immigrant from Moscow, she recognized a void that existed for many of her aging friends and neighbors and gathered a team of friends to provide home care services for them. That is how Caring Professionals began.

Our expertise and understanding of the Eastern European populations fueled our initial growth. Word of mouth spread in the Russian-speaking and Slavic communities that Caring Professionals took very good care of its patients and families recommended our services. Soon members of other communities, especially those from the Asian republics formerly within the Soviet Union, learned that we had aides who spoke their language and understood their culture.

Caring Professionals became an active presence in these communities, participating in community events and providing health information and screenings at neighborhood sites. Helping local food pantries, collaborating with community social service providers, and corporate sponsorship of community events are just examples of the commitment to community that is part of the Caring Professionals mission. We are partners to families that exist within a community context and we are there for them both in the home and in the community.

Caring Professionals now cares for other communities in the metropolitan New York City area with culturally appropriate providers, language capacity, and activity within the community’s organizations. A team of three works within the Asian communities of Brooklyn and Queens.

Latino communities in the boroughs know Caring Professionals can provide them with services that match their needs. We are a presence in the neighborhoods, working with social service, civic, and religious groups to provide access to appropriate care and education about health care. They know us and they trust us with the care of their loved ones.
